Automatic Lights

I came to the office on a Saturday,
came to work, and not to be mocked
by loneliness.

But every time I walk into a room,
the building greets me by turning on
automatic lights.

These lights, with all their good intentions,
Are the surest piece of evidence that
I am alone.

They seem to scream as they turn on:
"No one else has been here."

  1. It could be worse. I used to work in an office building late nights and ALL THE TIME the automatic lights would shut off on me and leave me in the dark.

That does a pretty good job of screaming- not only are you totally alone, but noone has been here except you for long enough that the motion sensors think it's pretty safe to assume that you're not even there anymore.

What's worse- at first I would wave my arm or something, but eventually I just accepted it and worked in the dark :D
